Compton Unified School District Community,
I would first like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a member of the Compton Unified School District Board of Trustees. I also want to apologize for taking up valuable time, which should be spent taking care of the District’s business and not indulging in a few select community members elected leadership aspirations.
By now everyone has heard about the comments I made on pigzradio. It’s no secret that I was a permanent commentator on the show for over a year. After a year I became a frequent guest on the show because of my time constraints. Pigzradio was created and is also hosted by Compton community members who are also my friends.
I would be the first to admit I made a mistake; I apologize again for the comments I made on the show. I should have stepped away from the show once you elected me to serve on the Compton School Board.
I ask you not to be distracted by my political opponents who continuously attempt to rally you up, take up valuable district time and assassinate my character. They are all after school board seats and are attempting to deceieve you by continously speaking about the comments I made on pigzradio. I never advertised myself being on pigzradio, neither did my friends. My mother whom I live with never knew I was a commentator on pigzradio. The interview in question was sent to the national media by the NAACP Compton Chapter President and a few others, to exploit the Compton community and preassure me to resign which would allow one of them to be appointed to my seat.
The NAACP is a organization that believes in mediation. I have yet to be contacted by the NAACP Compton Chapter to discuss the issues and I still welcome a invitation to meet.
Let me refresh your memory so you will understand why the names of the people you hear trying to deflect your attention from the real issues this district is facing sound so familiar.
In November of 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 Paulette Simpson Gipson, President of NAACP Compton Chapter was a candidate for Compton School Board.
From the way the Board of Trustees looks right now, she was unsuccessful in those elections.
In November 2011, Latanya Hall-Ganter was a candidate for Compton School Board in which Paulette Simpson Gipson was her campaign manager.
In November 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011 Joseph Lewis was also an unsuccessful candidate for Compton School Board.
Once again this is their attempt to pressure me into resigning in hopes the remaining Board will appoint them to a vacated school board seat. But this will not happen, the community elected me to serve as a member of the Compton School Board and take care of the district’s business.
So out of respect for the community and the job they elected me to carry out, I will remain focused on improving edcation in our community. I again apologize for the comments made on pigzradio and taking the time during our board meeting to address this issue and these loud but isolated voices in the community working to distract you from the real issues with education in our community.
